Dual-core Huawei Ascend G510 unveiled without much fanfare, coming soon in Europe

Huawei has been one of the most active players in the Android community these first weeks of 2013, including during CES. Nothing quite out of the ordinary there, but unlike other times we’ve talked more about high-end devices from the Chinese than budget-friendly low-enders. In fact, we’ve only seen one not-so-impressive Huawei device lately, although even that had quad-core power going for it. But now it’s time for the OEM to go back to its roots, at least the ones Westerners are familiar with. Meet the Ascend G510, an entry-level to mid-range Android device that missed a CES intro, but made its debut during a quiet press event in the Czech Republic yesterday. Though its name might be very similar to that of the recently unveiled G520, the G510 only comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Mediatek MT6577 CPU.
The chip is paired with a rather modest PowerVR SGX531 GPU and 512 MB of RAM, so you shouldn’t expect the gaming performance of a lifetime from this fellow. The 4.5-inch IPS display is itself mediocre at best, only boasting a WVGA resolution (854 x 480 pixels). Still, we can’t quite pin this down as a low-end gadget, seeing as it has Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow and a decent 5 MP rear-facing snapper with LED flash. It’s also a fairly elegant and sleek handheld, measuring 9.9 mm in thickness and weighing in at 150 grams, so there might be some hope for the Ascend G510 after all.
